Whoever Is Granted Four Things Will Not Be Denied Four Others

Whoever Is Granted Four Things Will Not Be Denied Four Others

This hadith teaches that whoever is granted repentance, gratitude, supplication, and seeking forgiveness will surely receive their divine outcomes. It reassures believers that sincere devotion always brings acceptance, increase in blessings, answered prayers, and forgiveness.

The Messenger of Allah ‎ﷺ‎ said: “Whoever is granted four things will not be deprived of four things: Whoever is granted seeking forgiveness will not be deprived of forgiveness. Whoever is granted gratitude will not be deprived of increase. Whoever is granted repentance will not be deprived of acceptance. Whoever is granted supplication will not be deprived of response.”

Wasaʾil al-Shia by Shaykh al-Ḥurr al-ʿAmili — Biḥar al-Anwar by ʿAllama Muḥammad Baaqir al-Majlisi

This hadith — “Whoever is granted four things will not be deprived of four things” — is a concise yet profound teaching that highlights the inseparable link between human effort and divine grace. It explains that if a person is given the ability to seek forgiveness (istighfār), then Allah will surely grant them forgiveness (maghfirah); if they are blessed with gratitude (shukr), they will inevitably receive an increase in blessings; if they are guided to repentance (tawbah), their repentance will be accepted; and if they are inspired to supplicate (duʿāʾ), their prayers will be answered. The description emphasizes that these four spiritual acts are not empty rituals but guaranteed pathways to divine mercy, acceptance, and abundance. In essence, the hadith reassures believers that sincere devotion and turning to God never go unanswered, and that every act of humility before Him brings a corresponding gift of grace.
